In which we celebrate the collected ebook and print versions of Between the Firmaments by JY Yang–and offer up a sweet giveaway.
In 2017, we Book Smugglers ran our very first Kickstarter–and beyond our wildest expectations, we not only funded but hit our stretch goals. One of those goals was a new serialized story from JY Yang–a tale of fallen gods in hiding and loves lost and found. We published Between the Firmaments last week in three installments.
About the Story
In an occupied city controlled by oppressive off-worlders, Bariegh of the Jungle is a god living in hiding—toiling away day after monotonous day, hoping his godliness will go unnoticed by those who would harness it.
But then a beautiful, daring, godling man walks into his life without a care in the world, his divinity uncloaked, and Bariegh is utterly undone.
JY Yang’s Between the Firmaments is a secondary-world fantasy about a romance between two gods, set in an occupied city where being a god is illegal. It is beautiful, challenging, queer, slightly experimental, and 100% awesome.

October 19, 2018 at 8:01 am“What is your favorite book, film, comic, movie, or tv show featuring gods?” I liked that show where the gods of Olympus were living in the United States today. I can’t remember the name. I think it only lasted a season.

October 19, 2018 at 8:13 amI really love the Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus series! I’m planning on rereading the first couple HoO books soon as I never got to reading the last 2 I think and then I want to (finally) read the Magnus Chase and Apollo series.

October 19, 2018 at 8:35 amI like those Kendare Blake books where the Greek pantheon are at war with each other! And they’re all slowly dying in grim and creepy ways. And I really loved those Laini Taylor books, Daughter of Smoke and Bone and the books that followed it. I loved how she would just blow up everything we knew about the world periodically.
