Hello everyone, and Happy Sunday! If you are in the United States, happy Labor Day weekend–hope you’re enjoying the end of summer. (How did that happen so quickly?!)
Announcing: The Kaz Signal
We have an exciting new announcement! Starting this week, we have a new regular contributor to The Book Smugglers: Karen “Kaz” Mahoney. You may know her as the author of YA urban fantasy novels, comics, and short stories, or from her awesome and spot-on commentary about popgeekery and comics online. (She goes by @kazmahoney on Twitter.) We know her as an all-around amazing writer, SFF-geek, and one of our favorite people–and so we are thrilled to welcome her to The Book Smugglers as a new columnist covering all things popgeekery, once a month. Welcome, Kaz!
This Week on The Book Smugglers
We kick off the week tomorrow with a cover reveal for the final short story of our superhero season: The Life and Times of Angel Evans by Meredith Debonnaire. You like Terry Pratchett and Doctor Who? This one is for you.
On Tuesday, we have Nisi Shawl over for a guest post, talking about her alternate history/steampunk novel set in the Belgian Congo, Everfair. Plus, Thea reviews the awesome Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo.
Wednesday, we launch The Kaz Signal with Karen’s first-ever post! Karen will introduce herself and the column formally, so stay tuned.
On Thursday, Ana reviews Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida Cordóva, the first book in the Brooklyn Brujas YA series. We also have author Sherri L. Smith over as a guest with her list of favorite whodunnits to celebrate the release of her newest novel Pasadena.
And finally, on Friday, we close out the week with Thea’s review of The Velocipede Races by Emily June Street over at Kirkus–it’s a book set on a planet (not earth) in which women are bound by Victorian-ish rules, following the one woman who desires to race velocipedes (bicycles) in a tightly-laced society. I REPEAT: VICTORIAN BIKE RACES IN OUTERSPACE.
That’s it from us! Until tomorrow, we remain…
