In which we celebrate the publication day of Broken by Susan Jane Bigelow, and offer up one sweet giveaway
We are beyond thrilled to finally announce the publication day of Broken (The Extrahuman Union Series, #1) by Susan Jane Bigelow–the very first novel from Book Smugglers Publishing. And to celebrate publication day, we’re giving away a copy of the print book, ebook, and a limited edition framed print!
In a post-war, future world, where first contact has been made with intelligent life and humans are colonizing the stars, the nations of Earth have been united under a central government. Extrahumans, those possessing supernatural abilities such as flight and strength, are required by this government to belong to the Union, where they can be trained, monitored, and weaponized.
Michael Forward is cursed with the ability to see the future – every possible future – when he gazes into another person’s eyes. All he has ever wanted is to escape the grim destiny he sees when he looks in the mirror, but when he is tasked with a mission that will define the course of human history, Michael finds he cannot refuse. Now, he needs the help of a homeless ex-superhero to save a baby who may become the key to humanity’s freedom.
Broken figured she was done with heroics when she lost the ability to fly and escaped the confinement of the Extrahuman Union. But then the world started to fall apart around her, and a desperate teenage prophet with a baby entered her life, offering her the possibility of redemption and a chance to fly once more.
In a time of spreading darkness, when paranoia and oppression reign, can these unlikely allies preserve a small ray of hope for a better, brighter future?

March 22, 2016 at 4:52 amFave Superhero story, hmm, as a youth I was naturally a fan of The Batman and a wee bit in love with Wonder Girl Donna Troy.
However, favourite story, the death of Gwen Stacy does count as a superhero story right?
My love for Spider-Man has always been an on and off affair, but this tragic romance still pushes all the right buttons for me.

March 22, 2016 at 6:56 amI loved loved loved Vicious! Almost 2 years later, I still think about that book and recommend it to others. I haven’t read anything else by V.E. Schwab, but I have plans to do so.

March 22, 2016 at 7:41 amThis looks so fantastic!!
I have to say that my favorite superhero story is a toss up between Superman: Secret Identity and Superman: Grounded. Both stories really look at what it means to be an iconic superhero while balancing the everyday struggles of life on Earth.

March 22, 2016 at 8:50 amI really liked SL Huang’s Zero Sum Game for its take on what a superpower might be and its moral murkiness – like The Dark Knight but fun.

March 22, 2016 at 9:33 amI don’t know if she qualifies as a super hero because she doesn’t have powers…but she is pretty Super. Anyway I love Agent Carter!

March 22, 2016 at 9:45 amI’ve been reading Marvel comics for quite a while so it’s really hard to come up with just one favorite. Chris Claremont’s X-Men stories are among my favorites and so are John Byrne’s Fantastic Four. But this time I’ll choose Claremont’s Days of the Future Past. (The movie was good, too, but very different.)
Broken sounds great!

March 23, 2016 at 3:26 pmSo hard to choose! I would say that at least from recent years, the Jessica Jones Netflix show is my top choice.

March 23, 2016 at 9:22 pmI’m not sure I have a favorite superhero story – I’ve read a lot of comics over the years. 😉 The old Phoenix/Dark Phoenix saga is classic, though. And I was surprised how awesome the recent “Deadpool” movie was (just to pick something wildly different!). When I was a kid, I thought Green Lantern’s power was the coolest. 😉 The Perez run of Wonder Woman was great. Hmm, I should stop or I’ll list everything.

March 24, 2016 at 9:23 amThis is a tough one! I love what Marvel are doing with Netflix at the moment, Jessica Jones was superb and I just started Daredevil last night. It took me 1.5 episodes to fall in love! Also a big fan of the Flash and Arrow. Basically I love all superheroes!

March 24, 2016 at 11:00 pmMy current favorite superhero story belongs to the Black Widow. She might not have her own movie, but she is the reason I watch The Avengers!

March 25, 2016 at 12:36 pmThis looks really interesting. It’s hard to pick one superhero story/show, but I’d do with Smallville. I love Clark’s journey and Tom Welling’s Clark is my favourite.

March 30, 2016 at 11:35 pmI’ve really enjoyed Jessica Jones lately–finished it this morning, actually. Little bit longer than it needed to be, but generally just superb stuff. I also feel like I’m one of the few people who enjoys the first Hulk movie. Yeah, the Ang Lee one. I know.
