Today we are delighted to celebrate release week for Beastly Bones by William Ritter. This is the second book in the Jackaby series, starring a paranormal investigator and his intrepid sidekick.
About the Book:
In the highly anticipated sequel to the acclaimed Jackaby, Abigail Rook and Sherlockian detective of the supernatural R.F. Jackaby are back and on the trail of a thief, a monster, and a murderer.
In 1892, New Fiddleham, New England, things are never quite what they seem, especially when Abigail Rook and her eccentric employer R.F. Jackaby are called upon to investigate the supernatural.
First, members of a particularly vicious species of shape-shifters disguise themselves as a litter of kittens. A day later, their owner is found murdered, with a single mysterious puncture wound to her neck. Then, in nearby Gad’s Valley, dinosaur bones from a recent dig go missing, and an unidentifiable beast attacks animals and people, leaving their mangled bodies behind. Policeman Charlie Cane, exiled from New Fiddleham to the valley, calls on Abigail for help, and soon Abigail and Jackaby are on the hunt for a thief, a monster, and a murderer.
Beastly Bones, the second installment in the series, delivers the same quirky humor and unforgettable characters as Jackaby, the book the Chicago Tribune called “Sherlock Holmes crossed with Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”
About the Author:
William Ritter began writing Jackaby in the middle of the night when his son was still an infant. After getting up to care for him, Will would lie awake, his mind creating rich worlds and fantasies—such as the one in New Fiddleham. Will lives and teaches in Springfield, Oregon. Beastly Bones is his second novel.

September 25, 2015 at 8:17 amNot really paranormal, although he investigates some strange goings-on, but I love Pendergast books, by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child.

September 25, 2015 at 12:37 pmThanks for running the giveaway! “Jackaby” was great fun, and I’m looking forward to the sequel. However, I wasn’t able to comment as I tried to enter, so I’m answering the question here. My favorite paranormal investigator? In the world of “Jackaby”, I’d have to say Douglas. He is so cute! Who can resist a duck?
But, in the world of paranormal teen lit, it’s a tie between Lucy and George, of “Lockwoood and company” fame. I can’t wait for that sequel, either!

September 25, 2015 at 1:11 pmI don’t know if you’d quite call him an investigator, but Kate Griffin’s Matthew Swift is usually figuring out supernatural weirdnesses.

September 25, 2015 at 7:54 pmWell I’ll have to go straight back to Ghostbusters and the iconic Egon “I collect spores, molds, and fungus” Spengler played by the late Harold Ramis. The bravest nerd we’ve ever known. Thanks.

September 26, 2015 at 1:24 pmI have to say that I used to be a big Harry Dresden fan, but they’ve gone downhill. The monstrumologist series was my latest favorite.

September 27, 2015 at 7:27 pmI really enjoyed Abigail Rook in Jackaby, and in other books, I liked Jaye Wells’ Kate Prospero in Dirty Magic.

September 28, 2015 at 4:17 pmIf I’m going lit based, I have to side with Lockwood & Co. Film however? You know I gotta call the Ghostbusters.

September 29, 2015 at 9:40 amIt has to be Alexia Tarabotti, from the Parasol Protectorate series. Though she is not technically a paranormal investigator, she does have a nose and knack for inserting herself in the middle of paranormal brew-ha-has. Also, kicks ass while pregnant – YES!

October 1, 2015 at 12:53 pmI really liked the team of investigators in Paul Cornell’s London Falling. Didn’t enjoy the sequel’s story as much, but I still liked the characters.
