January 26, 2015 at 6:08 amOooh, that’s an interesting list! Strange to see that Every Day by David Levithan is on there but none of his other books… I like Every Day, but it’s not my favourite by him and he’s one of my favourite authors ever. I do think The Graveyard Book is pretty great, although my heart looks at that list and says “OBVIOUSLY HP IS THE BEST FOREVER AND EVER”, haha.

January 26, 2015 at 12:12 pmOn the YA list, the ones that made me sigh and go YESSSSS were A Wrinkle in Time, To Kill a Mockingbird, Anne of Green Gables, Jacob Have I Loved, The Pigman, The Grey King, Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH, and The Book of Three.
On the Children’s List, I actually have an almost-four-year-old who is at just the right age for most of these, and I think they did a great job with this list. There are a few major-award-winning children’s books that are beautiful and lovely for adults, but sometimes I think the people on the awards committee must not have ever actually sat down with a child and tried to read the book to them. In contrast, we’ve read almost everything on this list (a few things, like Amelia Bedelia, are aimed at slightly older kids) and he’s loved pretty much all of them. Frog + Toad 4EVA.

January 26, 2015 at 4:24 pmWow, I’m really hard pressed to choose between The Chaos Walking series and His Dark Materials series.
But seriously, what the hell is up with that list? Why did no one who understands the term YA ever get to look at it?

January 26, 2015 at 5:55 pmI hate favorite choosing. I kept saying, “That one!” (A Wrinkle in Time.) “Or maybe that one.” (Anne of Green Gables.) And so on. “But definitely not that one.” (Twilight, really?) Maybe right at this exact second – Saffy’s Angel. I love books that give me the giggles, but still have so much more going for them.

January 26, 2015 at 5:59 pmI have always loved To Kill a Mockingbird… Powerful stuff.

January 26, 2015 at 7:08 pmWow, so so so many good ones! And several that I have bought over the years, but not read yet. I have to go with Harry Potter although there were a bunch I could have easily chosen with no hesitation!

January 26, 2015 at 10:55 pmOh my lord… I can’t read. From the list, my favorite is Dogsbody. I love that book so, so much.

January 26, 2015 at 11:01 pmThat is a really odd list. I love Westing Game and DWJ but of all her books, I would not have picked Dogsbody. I’m sad MW Turner and the Queen’s Thief series did not make it.
Mira
January 27, 2015 at 12:08 amThat is a sad, sad list. Why are Matilda, Marry Poppins, and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe on that list; I read all of them in 2nd grade! The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane is about a toy rabbit getting lost for goodness’ sake! (Could you honestly imagine any 13 year-old reading that?) Why were The Alchemyst and Twilight even considered??? And where are all the brilliant YA books such as Seraphina and The Folk Keeper and Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe? Whoever wrote that list (1) has no idea what YA is and (2) is MUCH too reliant on the popularity of books. Have they even read any of them??? Damn, even I could make a better list. And I’m a random person on the internet.

January 27, 2015 at 8:22 amHarry Potter. I’m one of those people who grew up reading a Harry Potter book each year. And I don’t know what my childhood reading life would have been like without this book. It’s such a great influence.

January 27, 2015 at 9:15 amThe Knife of Never Letting Go or A Monster Calls are my favorites.

January 27, 2015 at 10:28 amThis is so difficult. I’m going to go by sheer number of times I’ve read a book on the list: I read The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe once a month for several years when I was a kid and teen. It was my mum’s copy from when she was a girl, so it did not survive the love. 🙁

January 27, 2015 at 11:44 amSo many amazing titles! Choosing a favorite is like tearing my heart apart- A Wrinkle in Time, Harry Potter, The Golden Compass, To Kill a Mockingbird… some of the titles I may not agree with, but so many good choices as well.

January 27, 2015 at 12:17 pmI wouldn’t call it a YA novel, but of the books on the list The Lord of the Rings< is definitely my favourite. The Golden Compass is good, too, and actually YA.

January 28, 2015 at 8:06 amThe Book Thief stole my heart when I read it and I’ve never gotten it back since, so that would be my pick

January 29, 2015 at 9:09 pmI BAWLED reading A Monster Calls. I remember the moment, too…I was lying in my loft bed in my no-heat New York apartment at like midnight while it was storming outside…and I was just crying and crying. Weirdly, it was a happy moment.
