Hello everyone and Happy Sunday! This week, we’re keeping it short and sweet.
August Newsletter:
Our August newsletter is almost ready to go, and will be hitting your inboxes this week! This month we celebrate all things Middle Grade – and we’ve got five wonderful bloggers over to share their very favorite old school MG titles, and more. Haven’t signed up for our newsletter yet? No problem! Use the form below. We never spam you, you can unsubscribe at any time, and there are no hidden catches. (Although there may be hidden surprises! The good kind. Naturally.)
If you have trouble using the signup form above, you can visit the form directly online HERE.
This Week on The Book Smugglers:
On Monday, Thea kicks off the week with a review of one of our most eagerly anticipated books of the fall – fellow blogger Phoebe North’s YA Science Fiction debut, Starglass.
Tuesday, we have a thought-provoking guest post in our SFF in Conversation series from Lizzie Barrett, known on Twitter as @alittlebriton, but who also happens to be a judge for the Best Newcomer Award 2013 for the British Fantasy Society. Lizzie talks about bias in SFF awards and proposes an interesting – if unorthodox and perhaps controversial – solution. Plus, later in the day, Ana reviews the remarkable (and heartbreaking!) YA novel Charm & Strange by Stephanie Kuehn.
Then, for Old School Wednesday, we are thrilled and honored to have five amazing bloggers over to talk about their favorite old school Middle Grade novels of all time (an extension of our newsletter feature, in which we cruelly made them select just ONE favorite MG book). These bloggers include: Heidi of Bunbury in the Stacks, Charlotte of Charlotte’s Library, Angie of Angieville, Elizabeth Burns of A Chair, A Fireplace and a Tea Cozy, and Ana (aka the Other Ana) of Things Mean A Lot.
On Thursday, Ana reviews future SF YA novel The Perpetual Motion Club by Sue Lange. Meanwhile, Thea reviews one of her most highly anticipated books of 2013, The Shade of the Moon by Susan Beth Pfeffer (the fourth novel in the Moon Crush/Last Survivors/Life As We Knew It series).
Friday, Ana closes out the week with a review of science fiction novel Ascension by Jacqueline Koyanagi. Over at Kirkus, Thea reviews a murder mystery before the end of the world, The Last Policeman by Ben H. Winters.
PHEW. It’s another busy week! Until tomorrow, we remain…
