As we mentioned in this week’s Smugglers Stash, today we kick off our Batman Long Weekend in honor of The Dark Knight, in theaters nationwide on Friday!
Note the (temporary) change of header *points above* for the weekend!
We will be writing reviews for some of our favorite Batman comics–today we’ll take a look at Batman: Year One and The Killing Joke. And, today, Thea will take off to watch The Dark Knight! Friday, Thea will review her moviegoing experience. Then on Saturday, we’ll take a look at Arkham Asylum and The Dark Knight Returns. Closing out the weekend on Sunday, we’ll have our Best of Batman Poll!
And so, we kick off our Long Weekend with the Dark Knight. Enjoy!

July 17, 2008 at 4:44 amThis is going to be such a bittersweet movie, for Ledger. Even though we certainly didn’t know him as family/friends, he had such a personable way about him and it was hard not to smile when I saw him on TV or in a movie. Gosh, A Knight’s Tale is one of my top favorites and I might actually tear up next time I watch it.
Can’t wait to see him as the Joker. He clearly put his all into it.

July 17, 2008 at 7:33 amKmont, I know what you mean :\ it’s going to be very bittersweet. Especially since he is supposed to have done such an incredible job with the role. It’s so sad, he was just really coming into his own, acting-wise.
Katie–jump in my smuggler’s handbag! There’s room for you to sneak in :p
Seriously, I’m freaking excited. I packed a change of clothes to work with me so I can leave straightaway this afternoon!!! WOOHOO!

July 17, 2008 at 7:35 amI can’t WAIT TO SEE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I haven’t loved the Batman movies this much since…..well ever really. I liked the Keaton movies but these new movies just give the whole franchise a new image. Not to mention Christian Bale is uberhott.
Kate
July 17, 2008 at 7:59 amI agree with Mollie! I still really like the first Michael Keaton Batman – quite a bit – but Christopher Nolan has taken the franchise to a different place entirely. I’m excited to see this one too. Christian Bale, Heath Ledger – and let’s not forget two of my favorites, Gary Oldman and Aaron Eckhart.
Ana and Thea, props for the weekend-only graphics! I so envy your html skills.

July 17, 2008 at 8:29 amMollie–word! Christopher Nolan has managed to give the Dark Knight back some of his dignity (no more rubber nipples! Gaah!). Although, besides the debacle that was Batman and Robin, I loved each of the movies in the franchise, in different ways. Keaton did a fine job, although he’s just not what I picture when I think of Batman *ducks* I loved the first movie, and Batman Returns (“My name is OSWALD COBBLEPOT!” Ahh, what a role! Danny DeVito was awesome, not to mention Michelle Pfieffer’s Catwoman *melts*), and yes even Batman Forever with its bright colors and cheese. *ducks*
But Batman Begins took the movies to a whole new level that I don’t think COULD have been done before–the darkness is frightening, but fitting too.
MAN I’m excited! Is it 4pm yet???
Kate–Gary Oldman as Jim Gordon was an ace casting choice. And Aaron Eckhart, guh! I cannot wait to see his Harvey Dent, and how he does Two-Face.
And thanks for the props 😉 That header took me forEVER to make!
