This weekend’s question:
Which heroine would you root for in a bar brawl?
Anita Blake – Necromancer, vampire slayer with a bad attitude and a big gun
Mercy Thompson – Mechanic and coyote shapeshifter
Joanne Baldwin – Weather Warden, former Djinn, and well dressed down to her Jimmy Choos
Dante Valentine – Necromance with a katana
Ellysetta – Queen of the Fey, with some pretty impressive mage powers
Jean Grey (as the Phoenix here) – X-Men original recipe member, telekinetic and psionic mutations
Hermione Granger – Maybe not the toughest or biggest gal on the block, Hermione has the smarts and magic skills to be a formidable opponent
Rachel Morgan – White earth and ley line witch, with a penchant for getting into big trouble
Rogue – X-Men member, with the power to absorb the lifeforce of any human or mutant she touches
Kaderin the Cold – Valkyrie assassin without a conscience
Ororo “Storm” Monroe – X-Men original as well, with impressive power over climate
Alanna of Trebond – Defiant and feisty, Alanna worked harder than anyone to become King’s Rider and a powerful mage
Yelena Zaltana – Poison connoisseur, nasty with a bow, and soulfinder
Psylocke – Another X-Men member, with telekinetic powers and a badass psionic blade
Odetta/Detta/Susannah Walker-Holmes-Dean – Gunslinger. She might not have legs from the knees down, but that doesn’t stop her.
We refrained from adding in any of the regency romance heroines, because while they are lovely women of character, they would most likely get their asses handed to them on a platter by the chicks on this list. Maybe Lawless Lily or Jessica Trent could survive for at least 5 minutes if they were given the right firearms. Maybe.

March 8, 2008 at 8:50 amThis is a tough one! Most of these heroines are close to my heart…Jean Grey looks awesome in that pic (who are we kidding, Phoenix–or Dark Phoenix *gulps*–would destroy everyone), but Storm has always been my favorite from the comics (Rogue is my favorite from the cartoon, and Psylocke is just plain cool). Gaah! Decisions, decisions.
Not to mention all the paranormal heroines (it would be close but probably would come down to Joanne Baldwin, Rachel Morgan and Mercy for me).
Ultimately though, I’d have to be rooting for my girl Susannah Dean, from the Dark Tower books. Sure she’s a little schizo, but that girl definitely has deep steel, and her aim is true.

March 8, 2008 at 1:39 pmAnita, because she has a ton of backup and her ardor may hit at a moment’s notice and start to have sex with everyone in the bar.

March 9, 2008 at 9:43 amPuh-lease, The Phoenix would so kick everyone’s ass LOL. Actually it would eventually come to a face off between Jean Grey and Ellie from Lady of Light and Shadows I am pretty sure. *g*
