It’s Friday and as usual, we have another post up at Kirkus!

This post kick-starts a fun, self-imposed challenge to read and review as many titles as we can from Martha Wells’ list of non-European Fantasy novels by female authors.

Unfortunately the first book we review, Dragon Sword and Wind Child was a dud. Go to Kirkus to learn why.

Till next Friday, when we post our top 10 SFF books of 2012 (so far).

I felt more or less the same about Dragon Sword, although I still want to tackle the sequel. BUT ooooh that list! You guys should definitely give Fuyumi Ono’s Twelve Kingdoms a try if/when you have a chance, book 4 is just amazing but they are all incredibly solid in terms of character development and worldbuilding. ?

There are so many good books on that list–hard to know which one to recommend for your next try, but I think I’ll go with Elizabeth Bear’s Range of Ghosts. I want as much company as I can get while waiting for the next book!

I found that book so frustrating. It has its moments, but everything else – unevenness, flat characters, wtf? moments and cheats – just mars those.

(What’s up with Kirkus limiting comment options to just four that I don’t happen to use? Facebook, AOL, Yahoo and Hotmail. You should inform Kirkus that the 1990s left a long time ago.)

Heh ^^. Well, Ana has Lord of the Two Lands already, so there’s a great reason to move that up the pile of TBR
