World Book Night 2012
Hello fellow Smugglers!
I’m here today to talk to you about an exciting new opportunity — Nope, that sounds like an infomercial. Thea and Ana are kind enough to let me guest post about World Book Night America, so let’s get to down the basics, shall we?
What is it?
World Book Night America is an off-shoot of World Book Night UK.
Here’s how it works: sign up before Feb 1 to be a book giver. 50,000 people will be selected and receive twenty copies of a book of their choice out of a list of thirty titles. These paperbacks are specially produced for WBN and not for resale.
On April 23, 2012, the givers will distribute their books in their various communities.
Why are we doing it?
Because we love reading! And we love the people who read! And we love making new readers! (Can you tell we’re excited?) But mostly, because as fellow lovers of books and reading, we want you to join.
The idea is simple: Give a book and make a reader.
Who is doing it?
There’s two answers to this question:
1. Headed by Carl Lennertz, World Book Night America is collaboration between the entire publishing industry and then some — from publishing houses to students in publishing programs to national vendors and companies, all have donated time and resources to make this happen.
But the more important part is
2) YOU. You are the who that is going to make World Book Night America a success by signing up to be a book giver. You distribute the twenty copies to light or non-readers. YOU are the ones that are going to make one million new readers on April 23, 2012.
Where is it happening?
Wherever you are! We want you to give twenty copies of your title of choice to whoever you think should be reading it!
When does it happen?
SIGN UPS TO BE A GIVER END FEB 1. Sign up here!
See the list of book choices here!
The actual giving will happen on April 23rd, 2012.
And we’re all over the Internet, just waiting to here your questions and your comments:

About Us
We are two completely obsessed, sad, sick addicts when it comes to books. Faced with threats and cynicisms from our significant others and because of the massive amounts of time and money we spend at Amazon.com, we resorted to getting books delivered to our offices and then smuggling them into our homes (in huge handbags) to avoid detection. Here we found a perfect outlet for our obsession! Reviews, recommendations, and other ponderings are our specialty.Sponsors

[...] World Book Night 2012 [...]
I wish I could participate in World Book Night, but like so many bookish things, it seems that the focus is on the UK and America, and Canada is currently left out. Maybe next year Canada will be a participating country and I can have a chance to spread the bookish love, but sadly, it seems that I have to wait.
I agree, Canada always seems to be left out of things because the focus is on the US or UK…and for some reason we’re often not local enough to count as US but not international enough to count as UK. Fingers crossed for next year!
I’m in Alaska….which is considered an international location for most companies shipping/mailing things to me. Let’s see if they are really concerned about spreading books to people who don’t have much access to them out here in the Tundra.
This is absolutely FANTASTIC!!! I just filled out the online app to be a giver. I can’t wait to hear stories from givers all over the country!
Bibliotropic and Breanne M.- sorry about that! This year, it’s just the UK, Ireland, Germany and the US. Canada is definitely on our minds for next year, though!
Draconismoi- Alaska is definitely included! We absolutely want you snow bunnies to get the chance to give away some good books.
Katie- thanks so much for signing up! Don’t forget to tell your friends too, and you can tweet or leave comments on Tumblr or Facebook about your own experience with WBN!
[...] As you may have heard, World Book Night has extended the book giver sign-up deadline to Monday, February 6, at midnight EST. If you haven’t signed up, or want to learn more about WBN 2012, make sure to head over to the official website, or you can read more about the event and how you can get involved here. [...]
