Young Adult Appreciation Month: An Open Invitation
Young Adult novels rule, and are currently experiencing something of a boom in the troubled publishing world. And, we Book Smugglers have totally jumped on the increasingly crowded YA bandwagon. It is a genre that we love, and because of that love we are organizing a celebration of the genre: our first ever YA Appreciation Month, from July 19th to August 16th.

For the duration of the month, we will be discussing the merits of the genre, the apparent boom of YA literature, and the crossover appeal of YA novels. Guest authors and bloggers will be talking about their reasons for writing and reading YA and how the genre differs from books written for an adult audience.
And we will be reading and reviewing loads of books ourselves and we have to admit we are really looking forward to it. So much so, that we would like to invite YOU to join in the fun as well!
On Saturday 15th of August, the last Saturday of our Appreciation Month, we will have an open post where we will link to other blogs. We cordially invite you to read or write a post about anything Young Adult. Send us the link, and on the 15th we will add it to the matrix post. Anything counts: a review of a favorite oldie, a review of a new (or new to you) YA novel, a post reflecting on the genre, or even a piece on why you DON’T read YA.
You have more than one month to prepare. Why not try one of the books that we will read and review, or perhaps one of the books we have already reviewed here at the Book Smugglers! Or visit one of the myriad of YA blogs out there – you can have a look here for ideas, and comment and/or email us if you have any questions.
Anyone with a blog can join. To enter, simply comment here that you’re in, then prepare a post for Saturday August 15th and send us the link as soon as it goes live. We will be online the whole day, uploading the links as they are sent to us. Go on, you know you want to!

About Us
We are two completely obsessed, sad, sick addicts when it comes to books. Faced with threats and cynicisms from our significant others and because of the massive amounts of time and money we spend at Amazon.com, we resorted to getting books delivered to our offices and then smuggling them into our homes (in huge handbags) to avoid detection. Here we found a perfect outlet for our obsession! Reviews, recommendations, and other ponderings are our specialty.Sponsors

Fantastic idea – I’m in.
This is a great idea! I’m totally going to participate.
Sounds like fun… I’ll definitely come up with something.
Ooh, I like the sound of this. Count me in
I’ve been meaning to re-read Wake and Fade by Lisa McMann, so this will give me a good excuse to do so. It will also be a nice break from Jane Austen. I’m in.
So glad you’re spotlighting YA lit. I actually started a YA review blog awhile back with a friend, however, we’re probably going to have to close it down. But YA lit is still one of my favorite genres. I wish there had been such a wide array of talented authors when I was a teen!!!! Looking forward to all the YA festivities!
I’ll join in…I love YA!!!
Ladies I’m going to try to get a YA title read and reviewed for this. Have plenty to choose from!
Great idea! I should have a few YA books to post about.
I’m in too – am so looking forward to your YA month!
Hey there everyone!
I think it’s cool too and shows how great minds think alike!
Starting today, the author blog I run with two other authors called Moonlight, Lace and Mayhem, is shining its spotlight on YA readers every Saturday!!
So please stop by, I know today’s author (and everyone from here on out) would love to hear from you! Thanks!

Wait…at first you say Aug 15th, but then you changed it to the 25th…which one is it?
I’m in!!!!! It’ll be over on my G&BB’s blog, but I’m definitely in.
And can I say that you should really go over to http://thedairiburger.com for any and all Sweet Valley High snarkage. It is, without a doubt, one of the best ones out there.
Okay, I’m done w/ my Dairi Burger pimping. he-he. So, yes, I’m totally in (just clarify the date for my sleep deprived brain).
I’m looking forward to YA appreciation month. I love crossover YA but am not terribly fond of the non-crossover type. When I see an interesting YA book, I always look for reviews that say which type it is.
Hmm . . . I think I feel one of my Top 5 lists coming on . . .
Yay!!! Thank you for all the comments -we are really excited about this!
And Bridget
dude. Thank you for picking it up, editing post now. The date should be the 15th!!
I love Garth Nix Old Kingdom books – I feel a blog post coming on about them!!
Sounds a fantastic idea, I’m in!
I have some YA in my to-read-pile so I’m in as well.
I’m in: this is one of my favorite bandwagons.
count me in!
I have several YA books to read, so I’m going to give it a try. Thanks
I’d love to do this! Now to figure out which YA book to read since I can’t find the one I immediately thought of writing about.
Dudes – I’m totally in!

Me, me, me! I want to play! How very cool.
I think I might have to give this a go. Now…what to discuss…
Terrific! I’m in! Thanks.
I’m going to take part in this. I have a lot of new YA books so hopefully some duplicate reviews will occur.
I’m in.
Ahh my friendly neighborhood enablers! I will definitely join in on the 25th. YA books remind us to be young and have fun with life, even if it is while fighting zombies or vamps or whatever sometimes

This is absolutely perfect! I just started raiding my YA shelves to fend off a reading slump and started Megan Whalen Turner’s Queen’s Thief series- which is fabulous. I love YA, especially YA fantasy, so I will definitely be taking part.
