If you suffered the pain that made you feel like you wanted to die, what would you do? Would you risk everything and let it be drained away? Would you hide for a 100 years and forget it? or would you fight like hell to feel human again? Nikki Beckett tries to figure out if any of this is her answer beyond the, Everneath.

Brodi Ashton had written for her leading lady to live and breathe on those very pages in such a way that I too could feel what Nikki was going through from beginning ...more

Yes, okay. You could argue that these days YA does have a lot of what one blogger amusingly calls "sad girls in pretty dresses."

I have to confess, I'm a total sucker for a pretty dress. And I must relate to sad girls too, because when I was reading this ARC, I could hardly set my Kindle down. Everneath delivers exactly the kind of intense emotional experience that many YA fans are hu...more

Everneath is an emotional, heart-breaking love story. I was begging please, please through tears for it not to end. Brodi Ashton is an awesomely gifted writer. I felt like I was living this story with Nikki, Jack, and Cole, instead of reading about them. Ashton gives you a story about immortals feeding on the emotions of humans and Ashton delivers that same feeling of emotion to her readers. I felt every emotion of my heart being ripped to pieces right along with Nikki and Jack's love.

Truly enjoyed the world in this one. Very different than what's out there, even if it's supposed to be a retelling of the Hades/Persephone tale. Looking forward to seeing what happens next.

This book is the bomb diggity. Like WOW! This book leaves me speechless and so excited for the start of an amazing new series! I don't want to say too much, I might spoil it.

Why is this book so good? Well let by start off by saying that at the beginning I was a bit skeptical. While I love greek mythology, I am sort of getting tired of it. The way Ms. Ashton thought of the box and created a fresh world of darkness left me speech less. I love that she took something overdone and made it...more

Great concept but fails on delivery. Also the ending doesn't make sense.

There are many things in this book that aren't explained and the writing is at times weak and in need of a good editor.

I think my expectations were too high with this one. The characters are flat, mundane and their reactions to think are much like what you would find int a teen television drama like 902010 or The OC.

A pass.

This one sounded interesting from the beginning. Girl vanishes only to reappear 6 months later with no real explanation as to were she has been. To make matters worse, she knows she will disappear again 6 months later. How do you make appends to the people you've hurt, only to have to adequately say goodbye and leave them forever?

November Madness is what I nicknamed this month. With a variety of very interesting looking titles becoming available for galley grab, to many readers, it appeared to be a smorgasbord of literary delights.

Everneath is one such of these delights and, in my opinion, completely deserves the hype.

So something good DOES come along sometimes in paranormal YA.

I am very pleasantly surprised by Brodi Ashton's debut novel, Everneath, loosely based on a sort of mix between the myths of Hades/Persephone and Orpheus/Eurydice.

Nikki Beckett has been sleeping a hundred years in the Everneath, a limbo between Earth and Hell, where the Everlivings have found a way to be immortal. She is a Forfeit, emotional "food" for Cole, the Everliving she decided to follow in the und...more

Hades and Persephone, we've all heard the story. Of all the myths, this is easily my favorite. When I saw that Everneath was a retelling of this heartbreaking tale, I was instantly attracted to it. However, I was mistaken. This is not a Persephone and Hades retelling, but a modernized, completely original story that is loosely based on the myths of Persephone and Eurydice. It was beautiful!

First and foremost, the character that breathes powerfully throughout this book, is the emotion. ...more

Everneath is a gripping YA Fantasy book with a sprinkling of Mythology. It was a fantastic read and did not leave me disappointed in the slightest. I had had my eye on this book for a while now, so you can imagine how thrilled I was to finally get my hands on a copy.

Brodi Ashton has delivered a modern book with an engaging twist on the Hades and Persephone myth. Her unique spin on this myth makes the story her own. This is the story of Nikki Beckett, a Forfeit for a smoldering Everliv...more

Whilst reading this I happened to glance over at my mirror and see the expression on my face - my mouth was open, my eyes were wide... needless to say, I looked like a complete moron. But that should give you some indication of how much this story surprised me. I couldn’t stop thinking about this book after I was done reading it. It was haunting, and heart-breaking….and I loved it.

Seventeen-year old Nikki Bennett, Becks, has been gone for six months in the Everneath, a place where Everlivings, immortal beings, feed off the emotions of humans to survive. Nikki has come home to say a proper good-bye to her family and friends, most of all a proper good-bye to Jack, the love of her life. Nikki has six months on the surface before the Evernea...more

History books call it the Underworld. Or even hell. But I know it's neither. It is really called the Everneath, and it's not a place for the dead. It's a place for the Everliving – beings who have discovered the secret to eternal life. It's a place for their Forfeits – the humans who give up everything to nourish the Everliving. It's the world caught between this one and the next, a layer between Earth and hell. I know because I was a Forfeit. I would give anything to change this.

Forced to finish this one

The cover suggests a slightly more mature theme, even within the YA genre. It can happen. I just finished reading a book where it happened. But 99% of the book is spent with her outside of this “Everneath”, resulting in a fairly uninteresting read. I read it quickly so I didn’t waste too much time on it, but I really don’t like it when covers are so deceptive.

What a deliciously creepy tale. The feel of this book has lingered with me for days...the desperation, the ache, the tiny glimmers of hope. Read some Georgia Nicolson after this one, folks, because this is heavy stuff.

EVERNEATH is just as intriguing as it is addicting! Brodi Ashton puts a fabulous, modern spin on Greek Mythology, introduces characters who are flawed, and yet easy to identify with, and gave me a story I couldn't stop reading. This gorgeous cover and the intriguing summary had me super eager to get my hands on this debut novel by Brodi Ashton. Unfortunately it ended up being a bit less than what I was expecting. I love books that are based on mythology and are a bit dark, so when I saw that this was described as a reimagining of Hades and Persephone, I was quite excited. I don’t think this really lived up to any version of the Hades/Persephone story that I have ever read. First of all, I thought that it lacked the pas...more

If you're a fan of YA, paranormal or otherwise, you want this book.

You wouldn't know it by looking at her, but Brodi Aston has balls. Big suckers. The way she handled the chronology of her story was daring, but beautifully executed. I can't imagine the story being told better in any other way.
