Out NOW (& Giveaway): Food and Horror – Essays on Ravenous Souls, Toothsome Monsters, and Vicious Cravings

HELLO EVERYBODY! Earlier today we kick started Smugglivus and mentioned that we’d have a surprise later in the day. Well…

SURPRISE!

WE HAVE A NEW BOOK OUT TODAY!

In 2016, we hosted an amazing monthly column by one of our authors, Octavia Cade. That column looked at the relationship between Food and Horror, and the author examined that relationship in short stories, TV shows, fairy tales and more. The column went on to win the Sir Julius Vogel Award this year for best Fan Writing and now…

We have the honor and the pleasure to present Food and Horror – Essays on Ravenous Souls, Toothsome Monsters, and Vicious Cravings, in which we collect the Food and Horror columns, newly edited, expanded and with two brand news essays. Plus, a gorgeous cover art by Kristina Tsenova and cover design by Kenda Montgomery.

Without further ado, BEHOLD THE SMUGGLERIFIC COVER:

Hansel and Gretel. Turkish Delight. Viscous blood and meaty gristle. From the rituals that surround mealtime to the culture-spanning tales of insatiably hungry monsters, food is often used as both tool and metaphor in speculative fiction. In this award-winning collection of fifteen essays from Octavia Cade, the intersection of food and horror is explored in bone-crunching, marrow-slurping detail. You are what you eat, except when you aren’t.

The book is out now, you can get it as ebook or paperback or enter the giveaway below – open to all – for a chance to win a copy!

I am so hungry for this book (#sorrynotsorry) – the cover art is delicious, the concept tasty and it has certainly whet my appetite!
On a serious note I am looking forward to the exploration of this intersection.

Now this sounds like the kind of book I could bite into. I find the motif of predatory consumption an intriguing area of research, especially in myth or folklore.
