Cool things:

A couple of cool things from last week:

On Tuesday, Lizzie Barrett a judge for the Best Newcomer Award 2013 for the British Fantasy Society, wrote a guest post for our SFF in Conversation feature proposing an interesting – if unorthodox and perhaps controversial – solution to the question of Bias in SFF Awards. The discussion in the comments with dissenting as well as agreeing voices is pretty good too. Go forth and read.

Then on Wednesday, we had a special edition of Old School Wednesdays in which we invited 5 of our favorite bloggers to talk about their favorite Middle Grade classics. 5 bloggers, 5 books each, tons of stuff added to my wishlist.

This Week on The Book Smugglers:

On Monday, we review a highly anticipated MG title: The Year of Shadows by Claire Legrand (author of last year’s most excellent The Cavendish Home for Boys and Girls. Then we will also feature a guest post from the author about GHOSTS and other supernatural stuff.

The Year of Shadows

On Tuesday, Thea reviews Raven Flight, the sequel to Shadowfell by one of her favorite authors, Juliet Marillier The Dark Between by Sonia Gensler (she’s in a ghostly type of mood).

On Wednesday, it is time for our September OSW Readalong poll

Old School Wednesdays Final

On Thursday, Ana reviews a contemporary Middle Grade – Counting by 7s by Holly Goldberg Sloan

And finally on Friday, Thea reviews YA non-fiction The Nazi Hunters: How a Team of Spies and Survivors Captured the World’s Most Notorious Nazi by Neal Bascomb. Over at Kirkus, Ana reviews The Panopticon by Jenni Fagan

And that’s it from us today. Au revoir, my dears!

Ooo The Panopticon – I bought it because of the setting couldn’t decide how SFF heavy it seemed. Looking forward to seeing what you thought.

The Panopticon – it is hard to decide whether it is SFF or not. It depends on interpretation but I guess in a way that means it is Speculative Fiction! I loved it but it is a hard hard book to read. Gut wrenching.
