“Inspirations and Influences” is a series of articles in which we invite authors to write guest posts talking about their…well, Inspirations and Influences. The cool thing is that the writers are given free rein so they can go wild and write about anything they want. It can be about their new book, series or about their career as a whole.
Today, we are thrilled to have Patricia Briggs – a Book Smuggler favorite – over for a guest post! To celebrate the release of the third book in her Alpha and Omega series, Fair Game, we have a Dear Reader letter – not from Patricia Briggs, but from the heroine of the Aplha and Omega books, Anna Latham Cornick. (We’ll also have a review of the book later in the day.)

Dear Reader,
Hello. Anna Cornick here. I know most of you were hoping for Charles. I did ask him. But he just gave me “the look” and went back to work on his computer. Really, you are better off with me anyway because that man doesn’t say anything about anything if he can help it.
Fair Game is out, now–the story about how Charles and I went out looking for a killer and came back with more than we bargained for. Life is like that sometimes. I wish things would have gone better. However, if there is one thing the past few years has taught me is that life as a werewolf can be rewarding, exciting and awesome (especially if Charles is around), but it is seldom easy. The hope is, by putting this story out here for you, you will get the real background about why things turned out the way they did. With the facts in hand, you have maybe half of a chance at making the call as to who the villains and the heroes of the piece were. At the very least, you’ll know who I hold responsible.
The older werewolves (yes, I’m talking about Bran explicitly, though not exclusively) get all Zen about changes. Bran has seen governments rise and fall. He is fluent in several languages that only he now speaks. He is a survivor of the highest order. But even Bran is worried. Life is about to get interesting, and it all starts–for Charles and I, anyway—in Boston, where someone is killing werewolves.

I don’t know if its my favorite, but the first one I read and liked was Blood and Chocolate by Annette Klaus.
Moon Called!!! It brought me back to loving UF after a certian nameless author broke my heart by jumping the shark.

I don’t know if Ilona Andrews’s Kate Daniels series counts as werewolf novels, but I love the shapeshifters in them!

*struggles to remember werewolf novels self has read*… Oh. Dear. I cannot remember. Okay I will now use this as an excuse to say that Lupin in HP is epic and that his first name may very well come from Remus, twin brother of Romulus, the two founders of Rome who were raised by wolves. =)

Wow that’s a tough one. I can’t decide between the Mercy books or the Anna and Charles books. They are all Awesome! I have read and reread them so many times!
This is a tough question because I have different wolves for different occasions….I love the Mercy Thompson series even if it is a story about a coyote! I also enjoy Lydia Dare’s Westfield Wolves series. It’s fun and lightweight.

For me it’s a three-way tie between Patricia Briggs’s Iron Kissed, Cry Wolf, and Hunting Ground. I’m halfway through Fair Game so it may end up being a four-way tie!
Cry Wolf by Patricia — I picked it up at the store, read it in about 2 hours and then went on a glom of all the Mercy Thompson books and the rest of Patricia’s backlist
I know this is along the lines of what most people are saying, but as far as pure awesome werewolfness goes, I’d have to say Cry Wolf!
i’m not sure i’ve read many werewolf books. but i freaking love oz from buffy. and he is a werewolf. also buffy is the best thing ever. ok its not a book and its not really werewolfy, per se. regardless, the giveaway looks awesome! thanks!
