As you know, we are huge fans of Sarah Rees Brennan’s Demon’s Lexicon Trilogy and we are MOST excited about her upcoming novel Unspoken. As such, we are delighted to welcome Sarah to the blog today to reveal its cover. Without further ado, BEHOLD! The cover of Unspoken!

THE SMUGGLERIFIC COVER:

WE LOVE IT! And we can’t wait to get our hands on the book.

For now, we have a few extra bits.

THE SUMMARY:

Kami Glass loves someone she’s never met . . . a boy she’s talked to in her head ever since she was born. She wasn’t silent about her imaginary friend during her childhood, and is thus a bit of an outsider in her sleepy English town of Sorry-in-the-Vale. Still, Kami hasn’t suffered too much from not fitting in. She has a best friend, runs the school newspaper, and is only occasionally caught talking to herself. Her life is in order, just the way she likes it, despite the voice in her head.

But all that changes when the Lynburns return.

The Lynburn family has owned the spectacular and sinister manor that overlooks Sorry-in-the-Vale for centuries. The mysterious twin sisters who abandoned their ancestral home a generation ago are back, along with their teenage sons, Jared and Ash, one of whom is eerily familiar to Kami. Kami is not one to shy away from the unknown—in fact, she’s determined to find answers for all the questions Sorry-in-the- Vale is suddenly posing. Who is responsible for the bloody deeds in the depths of the woods? What is her own mother hiding? And now that her imaginary friend has become a real boy, does she still love him? Does she hate him? Can she trust him?

Sarah Rees Brennan brings Gothic romance kicking and screaming into the twenty-first century with a funny, modern heroine who can take care of herself, an angry, beautiful boy who needs to be saved, and the mysterious forces that bring them together and tear them apart.

A WORD FROM SARAH REES BRENNAN AND ARC GIVEAWAY:

Authors are always scared about their covers, but I was more scared of this one than most. A Gothic novel… what were Gothic novels meant to look like these days? How do you make a cover romantical and mysterious and classic-looking but not olden-days-looking? How do you have that kind of cover with an active-looking heroine? WAS IT IMPOSSIBLE? Was all hope LOST?

This cover came to me after my first cover artist disappeared into thin air (current theory: she murdered someone and went on the lam) and I was in a state of terror.

I was so happy when I saw the first sketch by my fabulous cover artist Beth White, I burst into tears in the airport. I feel so incredibly lucky to have got it. Are you feeling lucky? Comment for an ARC…

You heard the lady – comment below to be entered to win an ARC of Unspoken. Giveaway is open to ALL and will run till Saturday March 24 11:59PM (PST). Good luck!

Amazing cover! Cant wait to get my hands on this booo.

  2. Caroline says:

What a gorgeous cover. Is unlike anything I’ve seen in YA covers. It reminds me a little of the picture book The Princess Who Had No Kingdom- a book I adore for the artwork.
I LOVE how the male figure is just casually leaning against the spine- I’m hoping that means that he is going to be a miss understood bad boy ;)

  3. Greg says:

Cool cover…. akin to the John Connoly ya covers…

  4. elle says:

The cover is really cute. I can’t wait to eventually read this.

It looks so pretty! I think it’s great that they asked for the author’s input in designing the cover. I’m really looking forward to reading this, the cover and the premise both look intriguing.

  8. Lauren says:

I’m a huge Sarah Rees Brennan fangirl. I didn’t think that I could be more excited about this book, but after seeing that cover … Lo, and behold, I am!

  9. Lenore says:

Oooh, it’s gorgeous! It catches the eye and intrigues. (Even the girl’s hand on the door invites us to open the cover – was that deliberate?) If I weren’t already determined to read the book based on the excerpts that Ms. Brennan has published, this cover would inspire me to give it a try.

  10. Katherine H says:

She was really lucky to get such a nice one!

  20. Stuart says:

Excellent cover, I wish I had some artistic talent!

  21. azurelunatic says:

Oh, that is a lovely cover! I especially like that without context, the cutout style leaves ambiguity about which side of the gate she is on.

  22. brenda c says:

The cover looks lovely :) will this be the start of a series or a stand-alone novel?

  23. Taylor says:

That cover is gorgeous! I kinda just want to frame it and put it up on my wall. I’d love to have some paper cut art.

    What a stunning cover!

  32. Hannah says:

Ohhh it’s absolutely beautiful! I’ve been waiting so long to see it that it’s hard to believe it’s actually real! And I love it so, so much. I had a boxset collection of fairytales when I was little, with the most fabulous silhouetted paper cut illustrations and I loved it more than anything. It’s my favourite kind of artwork and I’m so, so happy that Unspoken has it too.

It may have taken a ridiculously long time to get, but that cover is so, so worth the wait. I’m not surprised Sarah is so happy with it!

  33. Megan says:

Lovely cover! I haven’t read any of her books yet, but now I want to get my hands on this one!

So terribly excited to read this!

  44. Chelsea Grace says:

Sarah I am commenting in the desperate hopes of an ARC.

Also as someone who had worked in a bookshop I think it’s a really good tone in terms of image. I think it will be very easy to sell!

  45. Dyah Candra says:

Fabulous cover and a very intriguing summary. I like the colours used on the cover, the design is simple and elegant too. This is the first time I see something like “a boy she’s talked to in her head ever since she was born”.
Pleaseeeee Booksmugglers, give this humble reader of yours an ARC! Foreign books are hard to get in Indonesia (if they are not mainstream book like Twilight saga or Hunger Games), and they’re expensive :(
So please be merciful with me ><

Cute cover and I like the colour.
I would love to get my hands on the ARC so thanks for the great giveaway.

  47. Katzell says:

  49. Jane says:

sweet, that’ll be recognisable on a bookshelf as well as in thumbnail form.

  50. Suzanne says:

Gorgeous cover, and great blurb! Congrats, Sarah!
