Giveaway: A Signed Copy of The Butterfly Clues by Kate Ellison

Hello everybody and welcome to another giveaway which we are running in conjunction with Paper Lantern Lit, a boutique literary development company committed to quality fiction and fresh voices. Today we are giving away a signed copy of YA Thriller The Butterfly Clues by Kate Ellison, out on February 14.

The Book:

Penelope (Lo) Marin has always loved to collect beautiful things. Her dad’s consulting job means she’s grown up moving from one rundown city to the next, and she’s learned to cope by collecting (sometimes even stealing) quirky trinkets and souvenirs in each new place–possessions that allow her to feel at least some semblance of home.
But in the year since her brother Oren’s death, Lo’s hoarding has blossomed into a full-blown, potentially dangerous obsession. She discovers a beautiful, antique butterfly pendant during a routine scour at a weekend flea market, and recognizes it as having been stolen from the home of a recently murdered girl known only as “Sapphire”–a girl just a few years older than Lo. As usual when Lo begins to obsess over something, she can’t get the murder out of her mind.

As she attempts to piece together the mysterious “butterfly clues,” with the unlikely help of a street artist named Flynt, Lo quickly finds herself caught up in a seedy, violent underworld much closer to home than she ever imagined–a world, she’ll ultimately discover, that could hold the key to her brother’s tragic death.

Wow. I was interested in this book before but after seeing the trailer I’m like “HOLY CRAP I MUST HAVE THIS BOOK!”

… Slight outburst asside, my favorite thriller is Dragonfly. Actually, that’s probably not true. But it’s all that’s coming to mind right now. Probably because of the title.

I want this book soley based on the trailer! One of my fave YA thrillers is Liar by Justine Larbelestier. I’m a sucker for an unreliable narrator.

Thrillers aren’t normally my preferred type of story, but when they’re done well, they tend to be amazing. The best one I can think of right now is Ilsa J Bick’s “Ashes,” which was certainly thrilling for me, but then again, I’m afraid of zombies!

“My favorite Thriller is the Michael Jackson song. Does my bad joke disqualify me from the contest?”

Sob. Instead I guess I’ll have to actually answer the question properly! I’ve always considered “Misery”, by Stephen King to be more of a thriller than a horror, so I’m going for that.

I don’t read a lot of thrillers, but love the sound of this. Lo’s character comes across beautifully in the blurb and I’d have to read anything remotely related to butterflies anyway, I have an obsession.
One thriller I would recommend is Sister by Rosamund Lupton. It’s a twisty, gripping thriller, but with beautiful almost lyrical writing.

I think if I ever really read a Thriller, then it has to have been years ago. I read some Romantic Suspense last year, but none was especially memorizable. Oooh, just remembered: I have listened to the audiobook version of The Silence of the Lambs when I was about 15 or 16, but back then, I was easily impressed. (and spooked) Does it count, anyway?

Some would say it’s not a thriller, but one of my all-time favorite books is also my favorite thriller — To Kill A Mockingbird. The thrills are subtle, unless you’re a child like Scout, in which case Boo Radley is scary and creepy, and mysterious until the end when the true villain emerges. Harper Lee builds the tension slowly toward the surprise ending.

I think my favourite thriller would have to be The Haunting of Alaizabel Cray- the steampunk feel and monsters make it such a perfectly thrilling book!
