I watched Avatar yesterday, too. It as the first time I actually ENJOYED a 3-D movie, due to the fact that they didn't use any gimmicks like thwapping me int he face with dragon tails or throwing things at me. It was more like it added depth instead of bringing things OUT of the frame.

I'd been warned in advance about the problematic race elements of the storyline, so I went in expecting a lot worse than what I actually encountered. Actually, my biggest complaint is that the aliens weren't as alien as you'd expect. All the other animals on Pandora had breathing canals in their chests and six legs and four eyes -- why were the humanoids from this evolutionary path so much more earthlike? However, I did like the scenes where we saw the humans and the aliens juxtaposed. My favorite part of the romance was where we finally say the Na'vi girl with the REAL Jake Scully.

Also, as a player of World of Warcraft, I giggled my way through a lot of the film. For those who play, it could easily be described as a movie about Draenei who act like Night Elves questing for epic flying mounts in Zangarmarsh.

I just saw Avatar last night in IMAX 3D and it was an awesome experience! The surround sound is intense and when combined with the huge IMAX screen in 3D, it feels like ur actually there instead of watching on a screen. And yeah, Sam Worthington is a total hottie, lol

I really appreciate this. The Mister and I were debating on whether to see this. We were worried we'd feel overwhelmed by the CGI stuff, like it would feel like a cartoon, but I don't hear you saying it's so bad. And clearly, it's something to catch on the big screen. And I didn't realize there was a secret added bonus for cougarish 40-somethings. Hmm!!!

Thank you Jessica! I'm going to see it on Wednesday and can't wait - it looks amazing! And I love that Weta Digital was involved :)

3D has never worked for me before, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will in Avatar.

I loooooooved Avatar!!! I thought it was predictable, too, but I really didn't care. It was beautiful to watch and entertaining.

But what's this about 3D... I think I have an excuse to go see it again :P
