There are way too few YA books about people of oclor out there. I loved Silver Phoenix and I want to read both Moribito books as well as Book of a Thousand Days. I recently recieved Gateway, but I've read some disappointing reviews of saying there's little to the plot and the romance is rushed. So I'll see how I like it. Your reviews are always so honest and helpful so thank you!

The cover of Moribito - Guardian of the Spirit is gorgeous. I may have to buy it for that alone :D

As a Chinese American, I almost always object to some part of the Asian portrayal in fantasy. Part of it is the awkwardness of the place names--Forest of Imperial Jade? Concubine Flower Mountain?--and the character names, and part of it is simply the condensing of a whole culture into a language for which it simply seems...somehow wrong. That, along with a vague RPG feel, was my main complaint after reading Silver Phoenix, but I'd be happy to give Gateway a try nonetheless. I keep meaning to read Shinn's Samaria books, but I never get around to it.

Definitely sounds interesting. I like the idea and the way the fantasy aspects played out.

Thanks for your honest review, still seems worthy.

Sounds interesting at least. I read Across the Nightingale Floor a while ago & loved it. I really must pick up the rest of the series.
