East is indeed the retelling to go with, if you’re only going to go with one. I felt pretty much the same way you did about Ice. It was rushed, and the second half was waaaay weaker than the first half. I also felt like there was still a bit of a disconnect between Cassie and Bear, even at the end. I mean, I know he apologized for the birth control thing, but I wanted him to actually understand why it was so bad, and I didn’t think that he did. Which drove me nuts, because a baby? That’s not something you can undo, and it changes your life. That’s not a decision you make without talking to your partner. That’s not something you make assumptions about. You just… don’t. (/rant)

Sweet. I’m gonna have to pick it up. I’m always on the hunt for a good retelling of this particular tale. Parts of it frustrate me and I live in hope of it being perfectly handled.

East was–IS–the definitive retelling. I discovered it in the middle school library, and I’ve ready it compulsively since.
Do give it a try. Incredible doesn’t do it justice.

Rhiannon – It’s definitely a good, light, quick romantic read. Definitely a pickmeupper (and when you’re in the mood for a pickmeupper, it’s definitely a good go-to novel)! Hope you enjoy it

MaryK – I really feel that with a longer book, Ice could have been much better. The story was plotted excellently, but the writing itself and character development left something to be wanted. Still, it’s certainly worth reading, and I’m excited to see what you think of it!

I’ve been looking forward to this review – I love fairytale retellings! I’m a bit disappointed to hear by the lack of showing, but a 7 is nothing to sneeze at. I’ll definitely give it a try.
