Thea!!! I'm so glad that you read Graceling without me! LOL No, seriously... this is a wonderful review and you're words have motivated me to MAKE the time to read it, instead of FINDING the time.

Also, I think the cover art to this series is incredibly beautiful!

Angie - I have to fully agree with you on this one. I loved Kristin Cashore's voice and her clean writing style, and I cannot wait for Fire! Thank goodness it's coming out pretty soon :)

Tiah - I totally agree! The covers are beautiful, and I'd be inclined to buy them based solely on the art *is a little shallow* I really loved how Katsa stands apart from the pack of heroines (especially in this YA post-Twilight age), and finds happiness in both herself and someone else.

Kris - Agreed! Katsa is the star of this book, and I'm sure Fire (and later, Bitterblue in book 3) will be the same :)

I thought this was really enjoyable too, Thea. The worldbuilding was good, but it was definitely a book where the characters, especially Kasta, shine. Fire sounds very interesting indeed.

The covers are so beautiful, I would have picked it up just by that alone! The quote that you posted was amazing, I can't wait to read this.

I know what you mean about books having the females get married to have their happily ever after. Not everything has to have a Disney ending to make a good story ending. More books and movies (especially in young adult) should show that females can be strong, self-reliant and beautiful on their own. A man should be a compliment to you and your life not the main focus.

So glad you liked this one, Thea. This was a favorite of mine for '08. I really love Cashore's writing style and Katsa as a heroine. I can't wait for FIRE.

Orannia - Something tells me you will really like Graceling! I cannot wait to see what you think of the book :) And I completely agree, the cover art for both books 1 & 2 are beautiful.

Kmont - Thanks! And do give this one a try. I'm pretty sure this is right up your alley as well ;)

Melissa - I'm not sure if it will be released soon in paperback (my guess is yes), but I know some bigger chains like Target, or online at Amazon have Graceling at much lower prices than B&N/Borders...if that helps bump the book up your list ;)

Lusty Reader - Oh, definitely. Graceling works beautifully for both younger readers and adults alike (in fact, I gave my copy to my baby sister - 10 years old - because I knew she would love it as much as I did). Also, if you liked that excerpt and want to read more, you can check out all of chapter one online here:

Karen - You will love it, of this I have no doubt  And thank you! It's nice to be home *ninja vanish*

love the excerpt, super intriguing. i heart YA novels and your review makes it obvious it still works for adults, which is the tricky part. and the covers for Fire ARE gorgeous!
