You did a really awesome job on this review… Kudos! However, I’m trying to understand one part of this book for a school project. I can’t quite figure out why, when Todd tells Ben and Cillian about the hole in the noise, they make him leave Prentisstown. I mean, I kinda get that they “need” Todd to be the last man in the army, but why does Viola prompt his expulsion from Prentisstown society? What does that have to do with anything?!!? I’m really confused, and nobody will tell me.

Sounds like a really interesting book; I’m definitely going to have to pick it up.

And I know this is utterly silly of me (especially since I’m a grown woman!) but I can’t be the only one who reads Prentisston as Penistown? I am? Okay, I’ll go back to my corner now…

I’ve read this book and it’s my favoruite (besides the da vinci code.)
Th is book has everything and there is twists and turns within an amazing plot which is part of the turn next to the other twist.

In other words it’s great and worth watching and i can’t wait til the next.

P.S I didn’t know that about that front cover, i read it with a diffrent one.

this book is brilliant! i found it at my local library, and decided to give it a go… i was DEVASTATED when i got to the end, the ultimate cliffhanger

SciFiGuy–(or should I call you Doug?) Thank you! If cliffhangers aren’t your thing, then I’d recommend waiting for the sequel. But definitely give the series a read as soon as book 2 hits the shelves!

Kris–Thank you! And I loved the use of different fonts and spacing to capture Noise–it’s incredibly effective. Ergodic Fiction, I believe is what the technique is called?

And the green martian We can’t take credit for it, it’s a wordpress plugin that assigns a monster icon for every email or IP address! You got the martian. I love the little monsters, they’re so cute.

Okay, I’m definitely intrigued about this story. Also, Thea, the way you describe the concept of noise being represented through the narration and actual format of the text sounds very interesting. A terrific review.
