Ah well, if you're a sucker for Post Apocalyptic I'd say it might be worth for you to track down Gabrielle Lord's novel Salt.
It has a great Mad Max like setting and other than the much lauded The City not long after (don't remember the authors name for that right off) I thought it to be a actually thrilling read.

Meljean--while I was reading LAWKI, I kept thinking about how you called it "THE ROAD Lite" :p I have to agree with you--but I think LAWKI speaks to me on a deeper level than THE ROAD did, and that probably does have to do with the presence of hope.

Although, I gotta admit that I though Ms. Pfeffer was pulling some punches. But believe me--the dead and the gone completely rid me of that illusion. It's waaaaay darker. I'll have a review up tomorrow :)

Marg--definitely give this book a try! I hope you enjoy it :)

Heh, I was just thinking about this book again today (mostly because I had a dream about zombies last night). It's going on my list of best reads for this year, too.

I'm not usually a fan of the first person POV or diary entries, and yet this worked for me, too. I haven't read the companion book yet, but I'll probably hurry that up now.

And I think you summed up the difference between THE ROAD and LAWKI perfectly: hope. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who liked THE ROAD but couldn't take how depressing it was.

Hehe, my pleasure Kris! If you can't spend money on books, what can you spend it on? (I talk big here, and yet still have to smuggle in books, undetected by the eyes of the wary boyfriend.) Ana and I are the worst sort of enablers!

You picked up a great group of books there--I cannot wait to see what you think of them ;) I hope you enjoy LAWKI!

Get thee behind me, Thea! I would say thanks for the link to The Nile B/store, but I just spent a bucket of $$ on LAWKI, Wicked Lovely, Poison Study and another book so I could make it over the $65 free shipping threshhold. Darn it! Oh well. *g*
