I admit, I prejudged the book based on the cover. Why is that man wearing a cape and no shirt?? If the artist had put him in victorian garb and hinted at the paranormal elements I would have picked it up. Since I'm going through a steampunk obsession, victorian & paranormal = WIN. I'd love to pick this one up. The Regency is popular, but it's never been as sexy as Victorian. Victorian has this dark streak about it. Corsets and lace. The industrial revolution was at full steam (heheh) with all it's dark and gritty underbelly. Big changes in society and technology. Tea time. did I mention Corsets? Not that the reality--rearranging a woman's rib structure--was hot. But in costume & make-believe --very.
The movie From Hell gave me the hebeejeebees.

I am sooo excited for Meljean's steampunk romance! Thanks for the heads up. I hadn't heard of that project.

I was first attracted by the cover and then the blurb, and the book is in the mail to me now, glad to see a good review. I like the Victorian settings and those with gothic tones, and paranormals, as well, so that’s a plus for me checking out a book. Interesting premise involving Jack the Ripper.

I have to agree – there's just something refreshing about the Victorian era, especially for a paranormal. Isn't Colleen Gleason's Gardella series set in Victorian times? Or is it Regency> Memory not functioning ATM.

Anywho, I can't wait to read the secons one! And I loved that scene with that famous author too!

Thank you Ana. I thought the snippet from Sunday had me hooked but after your review….let me at it

When I lived in London I actually went on the Jack the Ripper walk (yes, there is one)….at night….and while a lot of the East End was rebuilt after WWII there are still a number of buildings and narrow alleys to give you goosebumps, and that’s what reading this review has given me!

And such an interesting premise. It’s on my TBR list

Hmmm…you know, when I first came across this book, I wasn’t all that impressed with it. However, after reading your review, I believe I might have to go pick it up!

I love the Victorian time period, especially when it’s based in England. The American part of it not so much.

I am reading Night Falls Darkly now. Not very far but I love the setting. It has that gothic feel to it.

I was intrigued with this book, first by the cover, then the blurb when I discovered it several months ago. And I see she has been blessed with a beautiful cover for the second book also!
